PDU Session: MoveMindfully (TM)
On 13 May 2026, lecturers at IKCU School of Foreign Languages (SFL) participated in a Professional Development Unit session by Kathy Flaminio (MoveMindfully) focusing on embodied self-regulation practices that support well-being and classroom readiness. The session introduced a range of simple yet effective techniques, including crossover movements to promote brain integration, tapping strategies to manage anxiety and low energy, and targeted stretches like spinal twists and seated figure-four to facilitate physical and emotional regulation. Participants also explored the “shake to sway” sequence as a means of releasing excess energy before settling the nervous system, as well as restorative practices such as legs-on-chair, legs-up-the-wall, and head-on-hands positions to encourage recovery and improved sleep. These practices highlight the importance of integrating body-based awareness into professional routines to enhance resilience and teaching effectiveness. We extend our sincere thanks to Susan Johnson for organizing and facilitating this insightful and practical session.
